What happens when we get sick?
The nervous system determines what the body needs on a constant basis. When the body is stressed, due to illness, emotional trauma, over work, poor nutrition or injury, the nervous system becomes unbalanced and is not able to do its job. Stress for a short term will not harm the body. Ironically, the body needs stress to function in a healthy way. However, if stress can not be released and the body stays in a stressed state day after day, the immune system may malfunction, the digestive system may not process food properly, muscles may be sore, or normal cells may become diseased. This constant stress does not allow the body to relax, recover and heal itself. This may lead to immune disorders, digestive problems, muscle tension, headaches, mood disorders, cardiovascular disease, degenerative diseases etc.

What is Muscle Testing?
BodyTalk Practitioners use Muscle Testing to communicate with the body. Certified BodyTalk Practitioners (CBP) need to determine the priority areas for healing.  Several protocol charts are used to systematically cover a complex array of areas related to the body and mind.  When the priorities are determined, appropriate techniques are ‘tapped out’.

Why is "tapping" used in BodyTalk?
Tapping on the head helps the brain focus on assessing and repairing the imbalances in the body and mind. Tapping on the heart facilitates permanent storage of the new healthy communication throughout the entire body/mind complex.

Why is the idea of "Priority" so important?
BodyTalk uses a key principle of ‘priority’  Instead of the practitioner making a diagnosis to then determine a course of treatment, muscle checking or neuromuscular biofeedback is used to determine what the body’s ‘priority(ies) is of for healing.  This will be unique for each person, as each person has an individual background, environment and genetic make-up. Based on this information, the area of the body/mind that needs to be addressed first will correspond with the body’s inner ability to heal.  For example, if the liver was detoxified prior to ensuring the intestines were digesting and eliminating properly, the individual may get sicker if the toxins are not being released from the body.  Working with priorities is key in the healing process.

Why is synchronization and communication important?
It is important for all parts of the body (organs, muscles, bones, meridians, chakras) and mind to be working together. Each part is designed for very specific functions. When the design/physiology or function changes, then the body and mind are not working together and communicating with each other at all levels. We know that in any group, e.g. a team or club, if one person is changed, either by one leaving or by a new person joining, the dynamics in the group change. It is the same with the body. All parts need to be healthy, and work and communicate together.

Your First BodyTalk Session:

What do I need to do before coming to my first session?
Completing the Consent form and Health and Well-Being form and bringing it in with you, will  expedite the process.  Please take a look at this site to learn more about BodyTalk.  Further information may be found at www.bodytalksystem.com.

What kind of clothing should I wear?
BodyTalk sessions are done fully clothed.  Wearing comfortable clothing will make the session more relaxing.

What happens in a session?
To begin, the necessary history is taken, highlighting your main health concerns. You will then lie on a massage table, face up.  The practitioner will use your arm for muscle checking, by gently moving your arm.  This is a way to communicate with your body by asking silent ‘yes’ ‘no’ questions.  The areas of your body that are not communicating or working together will become priorities.  These priorities will be put together in ‘equations’ (like mathematical formulas) becoming the focus for your body/mind to change.  Specific techniques using light touch and tapping are then completed to restore your body’s balance toward natural health.

How many sessions will I need?
Because BodyTalk is very individual, the number of sessions will vary for each person.  It is recommended that a series of 5 sessions be completed to determine if BodyTalk  will help you reach your natural health potential.  Often, changes in well-being are noticed after the first session.

How often will I need to come back?
Your sessions will be based on your health needs. Follow up sessions may be indicated for a specific time and can be scheduled at your convenience.

Distance BodyTalk:

How can a distance session help me?
Distance or remote  sessions are done in the same way as in-person sessions.  There are many benefits to this kind of session, i.e. scheduling can often fit easily into your time; travel is not required; if you are not  physically well or do not have transportation,  you will easily receive the session; children, pets and plants respond well to this kind of treatment.  Distance sessions are available world-wide.  Clients relax in the comfort of their home while the session is being completed.  The results of the session are then provided either by phone or email immediately following the session. Remote sessions can be more powerful than in-person sessions, according to some clients.

How do distance sessions work?
Distance sessions are conducted exactly the same as in-person sessions.  According to Quantum Physics, every body part and every cell knows exactly what every other part and cell is doing. It also says that there is a deep interconnection and interdependence between every atom in the universe and therefore, every human being in the universe.  When we communicate with the body mind, we focus, using our brain and other senses, to determine what the priority areas are that need balancing. The protocol charts are used, in the same way as in-person sessions.  To facilitate distance sessions, for the practitioner, a mental workshop is used. (MindScape seminar)

Do I need to be at home or lying down during distance sessions?
Distance session can be done during your normal daily activities. However, most people like to relax or do a quiet activity during the session.  This allows you to be more in tune with the energies and changes that are happening.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?
No preparation is required.

What will I notice during and following the session?
It is important for you to pay attention to how you feel physically.  It is also important to watch how you are responding mentally and emotionally.  In similar situations or events, are your responses more controlled, less emotional etc. than they were prior to the session?  Often you will notice a general sense of well-being along with other changes.  If you are sensitive to energy, you may notice tingling, heat, cold, movement of energy or other sensations through out your body. Healing is individual and the speed at which it happens varies with each person.  It may appear that nothing is happening, but changes are occurring at a deep level, e.g. physically at the cellular level or mentally in the subconscious mind.

When will I know the results of my session?
The results will be provided either by phone or email immediately following the session or on the same day.

The Corticies Technique

One of the key techniques in the BodyTalk System is the cortices technique. Dr. John Valtheim, founder of the BodyTalk System explains the background and the implementation of the technique.

The History of BodyTalk

The BodyTalk system was developed by Dr. John Veltheim in the early 1990’s. Out of his own personal need and having contracted a serious strain of the Epstein Barr virus, he began searching for a cure. This virus had already done serious damage to his liver, and symptoms were severe chronic fatigue, constant pain, cramping and a temperature over 100 degrees for many years!

The philosophy behind BodyTalk originated with osteopathy and applied kinesiology. Energy circuits of the body were used in order to access the underlying energy blueprint. Knowing that and in the Western world, chronic fatigue, in different forms, strikes one in five people. Chronic fatigue, be it in the form of chronic viruses, parasites or allergies, was one of the major illnesses that could not be treated successfully by traditional or alternative medicine. Dr. Veltheim then focused his attention on the development of this system.

Though the major emphasis was on the treatment of chronic disorders, the spectrum of diseases that improved with the techniques included digestive, endocrine, emotional and stress-related conditions.

BodyTalk may be loosely described as ‘acupuncture without needles’, but more accurately categorized as a sophisticated form of energy medicine. The results being obtained could not be achieved with acupuncture, alternative or drug therapies.

The BodyTalk System has 2 streams of development. BodyTalk addresses the physical application in practice. The Life Science sector deals with the philosophical and psychological basis, that is, the understanding behind what we are doing (MindScape, BreakThrough, FreeFall).

Dr. Veltheim began teaching the BodyTalk system in 1995 in Malta, England, Australia and New Zealand and later in 2001 in Calgary, Alberta. Many successes and ‘miracle results’ were achieved through out the world. BodyTalk is now practiced in over 40 countries and the materials are translated into 8 languages. The head office is in Sarasota, Florida, with branch offices in Germany and Australia.

The BodyTalk system continues to be dynamic; incorporating new developments, applications, and advanced concepts of mathematics and physics. The techniques have been streamlined to cover a wide variety of conditions of the body and mind.

It is important to note that BodyTalk never claims to treat disease, per se. The emphasis is on addressing the underlying factors of disease and maintaining the health of the body. One of the main philosophies of BodyTalk is that if the body is functioning well – meaning, all the lines of communication are there and all the organs are communicating and operating at their optimum level – then the body can maintain health or facilitate the self-healing of day-to-day health issues. Limitations of the BodyTalk system would include serious illnesses or injuries that require drug therapy, surgery or any other modern health advancements.

As the BodyTalk system can be complementary to other methods, the techniques are being used in midwifery, sports medicine, rehabilitation, addiction, medical specialties, speech language pathology, physical therapy, social work, psychology etc.

BodyTalk can also be very effective in the treatment of animals and plants, too.
